A reconstruction of a bronze Roman helmet. The type of helmet shown here is is classified as a type C Coolus helmet named after a modern-day area in Marne, France. As the name suggests this type of helmet was based upon contemporary Gallic designs, the influence of which may be seen both here and in the more decorated Imperial-Gallic helmets.
The helmet was modeled in 3DS Max and rendered using Metal Ray with some texture work in the GIMP. Credit must also go to Keith Bruns of unparent.com for allowing the use of his Japanese Cherry Blossom HDR image.
